New Zealand Greenstone "Pounamu" Rugby Ball Hand Carved
This one of a kind hand crafted Rugby Ball is a Rugby collectors dream. Carved out of New Zealand Nephrite Jade, Greenstone, "Pounamu" this piece was created to commemorate the 1987 Rugby World Cup, the first ever world cup tournament for Rugby, hosted by New Zealand & Australia. The All Blacks the "inaugural winners" beating France 29 - 9 in the final at Eden Park.
This beautiful piece has koru designs on the Rugby ball, the spiral shape based on the appearance of a new unfurling silver fern frond. It is an integral symbol in Māori art, carving and tattooing, where it symbolises new life, growth, strength and peace.
